Provincial Government

The Government of the Province of Saskatchewan is involved in a number of activities related to climate change. These include: public education and outreach, energy conservation and emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, research and development and adaptation to climate change impacts.

The Ministry of Energy and Resources is the provincial department responsible for the development and conservation of provincial energy resources. The Minister of Energy and Resources participates in the Joint Meeting of Ministers of Energy and Environment dealing with climate change issues. Energy and Resources is involved in a number of activities related to climate change and energy efficiency including:

  • Toll free energy conservation hotline
  • Petroleum Technology Development Centre
  • Praire Adaptation Research Collaborative
  • Greenhouse Gas Technology Centre
  • Greenprint initiatives on Energy Conservation
  • Greenprint initiative on Ethanol Industry

Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment is the provincial department responsible for environmental protection and renewable resource management. The Minister of Environment participates in the Joint Meeting of Ministers of Energy and the Environment dealing with climate change. The Ministry of Environment is involved in a number of activities related to climate change including:

  • Vehicle Emissions program
  • Forest Carbon sequestration agreement with SaskPower
  • CCME climate change indicators project
  • Climate Change Saskatchewan
