The greenhouse effect has accelerated in the last century to the point that we can expect to see temperature increases in Saskatchewan of three to six degrees by the end of the 21st century. That would have a dramatic undesirable effect on our environment and cause huge impacts. Identification of these impacts is relatively new (see history chronology) and the search for solutions has really just begun. Today, at a practical level, there is no one solution that can solve this problem but rather we need to use a multi-faceted approach. The challenge is to strike a balance between preserving our environment and maintaining our economy. Some of the solutions are reducing use of GHG gas intensive energy, removing greenhouse gas from the atmosphere and adaptation. |
