MEDIUM LENGTH (350 words) Saskatchewan people will now be able to find climate change information more readily, thanks to the launch of Climate Change Saskatchewan. The centre is important for a province with high greenhouse gas emissions because of its cold climate and dependence on energy intensive industries like oil, gas and agriculture. The Opening was held on January 8th, the warmest winter day since records have been kept. Guest speakers were Ministers Goodale, Thomson, Belanger and the president of the University and entertainment by an environmentalist/signer and students. Climate change is an important and challenging public policy and social issue and Climate Change Saskatchewan is funded by the provincial and federal government, directed by SIDRU and is supported by stakeholders around the province. Climate Change Saskatchewan was created to increase the public awareness of climate change and provide a source of relevant information for the Saskatchewan public to learn about what is happening in Saskatchewan and what may happen in the future. They are a resource for individuals, communities, agriculture, business, educators, and youth who want to learn more and take action. This information is posted on their website at http://www.climatechangesask.ca Recently, Climate Change Saskatchewan has been at Trade Shows and Teachers Conferences and have been distributing a brochure called "Climate Change Saskatchewan Edition" which was a collaborative venture of various government agencies, industry, business and environmental interests to increase awareness of climate change and solutions in Saskatchewan. Another service that Climate Change Saskatchewan offers is a Speakers Bureau where a knowledgeable person will come out to make a presentation to a group on a climate change related topic of interest at no charge. The centre is also working with educators to provide curriculum support on climate change for teachers and students in classrooms around Saskatchewan. Hosted by SIDRU,Climate Change Saskatchewan, with its mandate of public education and awareness, complements the research and development projects at the University of Regina, PTRC (Petroleum Researh Centre) and PARC (Prairie Adaptation Research Collaborative).
