Contest Origins

The Office of Energy Conservation and Climate Change Saskatchewan would like to thank The Barenaked Ladies for their efforts to address the serious threats of global warming, industrial pollution, forest destruction, over dependence on oil and a host of other global challenges. Partnering with Reverb, a non-profit organization that seeks to raise awareness and support for the environment through building upon the powerful connection between musicians and their fans, the Barenaked Ladies' have launched Barenaked Planet, a website designed to draw attention to environmental issues. For their current concert tour the Barenaked Ladies are incorporating a number of green initiatives, including: running their tour buses and trucks on biodiesel, purchasing wind power to offset the energy used at each of their shows, and recycling and using compostable materials backstage.

Reverb invited local and national groups such as Climate Change Saskatchewan and the Office of Energy Conservation to participate in an 'eco village' being held in conjunction with the Barenaked Ladies concerts so that fans can learn about environmental issues in their local communities and get engaged. As part of these events, Climate Change Saskatchewan hosted this contest.
